Pub conversions are becoming increasingly popular – supermarket chains can convert them without planning permission. But can the rollercoaster be stopped?
It happened in Herne and in Weston Super Mare – but these are exceptions – in November last year CAMRA reckoned that over 200 pubs had already been converted. Supermarkets are targeting struggling pubs all over the UK and saturating an already competitive market with stores.
The coalition Government is ‘looking‘ at closing the loophole which allows the process to happen – but for the 200 pubs and the small businesses of Warley, it could be too late. Or write to a sympathetic MP – there’s a list here of MPs who are growing weary of the predatory behaviour of the supermarkets.
